Worldwide there is a clear demand to reduce the antibiotic use in livestock farming to reduce the risk for antibiotic resistance. Medium chain fatty acids are well known to exert excellent antimicrobial properties. For this reason they are used for a long time as alternative to antibiotics in piglet nutrition. However the properties of medium chain fatty acids go far beyond their antimicrobial effect. In this way they are an excellent option to reduce the antibiotic use in pigs.
Challenge: we live in a world that will soon be occupied by over 9 billion people, a world whose resources are being run down at an unsustainable rate. Change will and must come; innovation is needed to provide science-based, practical solutions, and commercial growth will allow these solutions to reach an ever-increasing portion of the globe. But sustainable solutions require care: respect for animal and human health and welfare.
Nuscience will again be present at the LIV fair in Venray this year. During these 3 days, a lot of attention will be given to the piglet feed range: Porcito! Porcito is the collective name of our total piglet feed range. It includes the well-known names Babito, Babimel and Babistar. As a promotion, visitors get the chance to win 1,000 kg of prestarter by submitting a coupon from the LIV Venray coupon booklet. In any event, anyone interested will receive a nice gadget!
Both high feed intake and great health are critical factors in starting up piglets after weaning. The Nuscience prestarter Babistar Gold combines tasty ingredients and immunity-supporting ingredients to guarantee both high feed intake and great health. High post-weaning feed intake is essential to minimise weaning stress in piglets and maintain their intestinal health.
Mycotoxin analyses are often outsourced to specialist laboratories. This often makes the analyses expensive and the completion time can be long. This is why Nuscience Group is introducing a quick mycotoxin analysis system: Quantitox. Based on a quantitative ELISA method, Quantitox can be used to determine the quantity of the 6 most prevalent mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, aflatoxin, fumonisin, T2 and ochratoxin). The analysis offers a reliable, cost-efficient and time-saving alternative to existing analyses.
With spring right around the corner and the dung pits full, most dairy farmers are ready to start application on the land. This time, just before the spring application of fertiliser, is an ideal time to determine the feed strategy for the coming year. How much roughage is required in your business, and how many hectares are available? Two main business types can be discerned, each requiring a specific feeding strategy: extensive and intensive companies.
At the occasion of Inaghen exhibition in the Philippines, our local distributor NSJ Enterprises represented Nuscience from 24th - 26th February 2016.

Nuscience was present at the 48th Journées de la Recherche Porcine (JRP) in Paris. The JRP, co-organized by INRA and IFIP, is intended to disseminate the most recent results of pig research. Our article and poster, both entitled "A partial substitution of Vitamin E by a mixture of polyphenols doesn't influence the quality of pork", received a lot of attention at the event.
In December 2015, the Nuscience Group incorporated a subsidiary office as ‘Nuscience Singapore Pte Ltd’. The new office in Singapore is a pivotal footprint for the Nuscience Group in Asia. Initially, it will focus primarily on sales and customer support for the products of the Nutrition4U business unit.
The share of light piglets during weaning is continuously growing due to the significant increase in litter size. With Babistar Flex, Nuscience can offer the ideal solution for lighter weaned piglets! We know that during weaning, lighter piglets have lower feed intake and less developed intestines at the moment of weaning. This is why it is important to stimulate feed intake of these lighter weaned piglets before and during weaning as much as possible in order to enable them to mature into a full pig.
On 2 October 2015, Nuscience opened its brand new plant in Drongen (Belgium). The new plant replaces the current production sites in Drongen and Baasrode in Belgium. This significantly simplifies production logistics. At the occasion of opening the new plant, Patrick Keereman, CEO of Nuscience Group, handed over his position to Johan De Schepper, who joined the company as the COO 2 years ago.
In times of stress in poultry, changes are noticeable in their bodies. These lead to a decrease in the technical results with economic losses as a consequence. There are different types of stress. Oxidative stress is when an imbalance between oxidation and anti-oxidants is disrupting the integrity and health of cells. In oxidative stress, the production of free radicals is higher than the body’s ability to eliminate these reactive oxygen species.
From 20 through 22 October, the annual LIV took place in Hardenberg. Again, the introduction of our new piglet feed range Porcito was a highlight in terms of customer interest. That our prestarters are very tasty indeed was proven by the fact that many visitors tasted the prestarters and found them palatable. The feed bowls on the stand were literally a favourite grub. Nuscience will also be present at the LIV’16 Exhibition in Venray from 1 through 3 March 2016. We would be happy to see you back at our stand.
Last season’s grass ensilages on average have high VEM levels and digestibility is good to excellent. Cows will have little trouble with a relatively large intake of this grass. This offers opportunities of retrieving high quantities of milk from roughage. The flipside of excellent digestibility, however, is that the silos do not bring stability in the rations. This leads to an increased risk of rumen acidosis.
Today marks the official opening of the Nuscience Group’s brand-new, state-of-the-art plant in Drongen (Ghent), Belgium. This new plant will replace the current production sites in Drongen and Baasrode and thus represents a major simplification of the production logistics. The plant will also double the current production capacity to more than 10,000 tons per month.
In addition, Patrick Keereman, current CEO of the Nuscience Group, will pass on the torch to Johan De Schepper, who joined the company two years ago as COO.
The problem of ear necrosis is increasing worldwide. The current ear necrosis problems are prevalent throughout the year, while in the past the disease mainly occurred in autumn and winter. Ear necrosis problems generally start in the battery. Nuscience developed Vitatip specifically to decrease ear necrosis in piglets. The exact cause of ear necrosis is hard to define. A combination of poor circulation and the presence of toxin producing bacteria (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus) on the ear surface often start the condition.
Between 20 and 22 October, Nuscience will again be present at the LIV fair in Hardenberg. During these 3 days, a lot of attention will be given to the piglet feed range: Porcito! Porcito is the collective name of our total piglet feed range. It includes the well-known names Babito, Babimel and Babistar. As a promotion, visitors get the chance to win 1,000 kg of prestarter by submitting a coupon from the LIV Hardenberg 2015 coupon booklet. In any event, anyone interested will receive a nice gadget!
The current milk price necessitates many dairy farms to spend money only on essentials. A livestock farmer could consider temporarily not using a mineral mix. However, such short-term savings can be long-term expenses. If minerals, trace elements and vitamins are sub-optimal, the fertility and health of the animals come under pressure. After a few months, this is visible in the number of animals with health issues and lower performance of the animals. You will see that the milk prices will just then go up again!
My name is Ewoud Hazejager and I joined Nuscience as an account manager for the Dutch market on 1th June this year. After studying animal science in Wageningen, I worked with various companies in the compound feed sector as a field representative and as a nutritionist. Within Nuscience, I will focus on sales and support of premixes in general and cattle minerals in particular. I see it as a challenge to provide optimal service to our customers based on the knowledge I have and that I am further developing within Nuscience.
From 21 September, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will start inspections in pig farms to check compliance with the statutory standard for copper in pig feed. Feed for pigs of 12 weeks and older may contain a maximum of 25 milligrams of copper per kilo. An estimated 30% of companies give pigs a high-copper feed for too long. Aromabiotic gives Nuscience tried and tested alternatives for supporting intestinal health in pigs.
The Nuscience Group announces the official opening of its new plant in Tianjin, China, on 26 May 2015. The new plant – with a capacity of 10,000 metric Ton per month – replaces the old plant Nuscience acquired in 2000 in Central TEDA. Representing an investment of close to 100 million CNY or 14.8 million euros, the new Tianjin plant has the latest state of the art technology and equipment.
Nuscience, the specialty division of the Royal Agrifirm Group, has acquired the company Nutrifarma, a leading provider of premixes, concentrates, specialty feeds, additives and services. This important acquisition provides Nuscience with a stronger foothold in the strategically important Brazilian market.
The distributor meeting, which took place from 14th till 16th of April 2015 in Belgrade Serbia, was hosted by our local company NPI (Nuscience Premix International) and showed different presentations concerning “healthy young animals with excellent nutrition”. From both divisions Health4U and Nutrition4U Nuscience highlighted the products and concepts focused on Young Animal Nutrition.
From 24 through 26 February, the annual LIV took place in Venray. With almost 19,000 visitors, the event was very successful. Again, the introduction of our new piglet feed range Porcito was a highlight in terms of customer interest. Many visitors visited our stand to find out more about our unique feed concept. The focus on health, digestibility and tastiness was highly appreciated.
Adequate feed intake immediately after weaning is essential for retaining intestinal functionality. Giving piglets supplementary liquid feed with Babimel Wean after weaning will allow for having piglets eating quicker after weaning. Recent tests proved it again: giving extra liquid feed to piglets a few days after weaning can improve growth in the first post-weaning week by as much as 30%! Additionally, adequate post-weaning feed intake is important for maintaining intestinal health, and decreasing the animals’ sensitivity to infections. Adding Babimel Wean in the first days after weaning will lead to healthier piglets and better post-weaning performance.
In the past few years, various parties, including Nevedi, collaborated within the Dutch Foundation Chain Transition Sustainable Soy, with the aim of setting up certification of soybean meal that complies with sustainability requirements. For example relevant to working conditions, responsible use of pesticides and countering deforestation. The intention is that the translation to the market will be completed in 2015. Nuscience supports this initiative with MervoBest SOY, facilitating the use of sustainable soy in the sector.
The necessity to work on enhancing N and P efficiency in dairy cattle is increasing. How can you achieve this without making feed more expensive? The current lower milk prices - and the super levy for a number of livestock farmers - leave little room for purchasing more expensive feedstuffs for better mineral efficiency. After abolishing the milk quota, adequate N and P efficiency seems to become a necessity to retain the ‘licence to produce’. Both at stable level and country level, the use of these two elements in particular is scrutinised and must increasingly be accounted for in more detail.
Mycotoxins are poisonous substances derived from moulds that can be present in arable crops. Mycotoxins can form during the growing process, after harvesting or during storage. Mycotoxins can form during the growing process as a result of certain weather conditions and soil methods. In compound feeds, Mycotoxins tend to form in grains and derived products.
Due to increasing litter size, the average birth weight, weaning weight and uniformity of the weaned piglets decreases. This is why Nuscience developed Babimel Cream, the all-in porridge that supports healthier, heavier and more uniform piglets around weaning.
My name is Wouter Naeyaert and I joined Nuscience as a Product Manager for pigs on 1 July this year. I live in Belgium, and I studied Bioengineering Science at Ghent University, specialising in Agricultural science. I have extensive experience in pig breeding from my home background, and I am happy to put in this practical knowledge within Nuscience. My aim is a valuable contribution in supporting Nuscience’s customers. I will mainly focus on supporting and representing the nutritional concepts that can be applied in premixes, prestarters and other feeds for pigs.
On 21, 22 and 23 October, the annual LIV took place in Hardenberg. With over 20,000 visitors, Nuscience’s event was very successful. The introduction of our new piglet feed range Porcito was a highlight in terms of customer interest.
With its Mervit mineral feeds, Nuscience offers the livestock farmer solutions responding to all dairy cattle needs. Mervit HEALTH was specifically developed to support cow health in general and to contribute to preventing and curing claw problems.
After a very long growing season, all cattle is in the stable again. The stable period requires extra attention for claw health, in particular infectious conditions. Prevention is better than cure, even cows will agree. From recently published research it became apparent that heifers that suffered from mortellaro as young heifers have six times the probability to redevelop this infectious condition in later life than heifers that never suffered from the condition.
Selenium is an important trace element in animal feed. This trace element is added to animal feedstuffs via premixes because roughage and compound feed ingredients generally do not contain enough selenium to warrant good animal health and production.
Nuscience Group is proud to announce the launch of two new and focused business units: Health4U and Nutrition4U. With these two business lines, Nuscience strengthens its specialized support to customers worldwide. Moreover, the dedicated BU’s will increase the business coverage with its new and existing sustainable solutions in the feed markets. Nuscience Belgium proudly presents the launch of its Health4U product range in Pakistan together with its distributor Orient Animal Health Pvt.Ltd. The launching ceremony was celebrated by organizing two technical seminars in two different cities; Gujranwala and Faisalabad on 24th and 25th September 2014.
Every edition of the newsletter will feature a product from the Porcito range. We are kicking off with Babimel Lac.
Sows’ milk remains the best diet for piglets but sometimes there is no other option than to wean some of the piglets early. Babimel Lac is a milk replacer especially developed for the motherless rearing of piglets.
This year, Nuscience was represented for the first time at the Agricultural Days in Someren. Many visitors were received at our stand and there was plenty of opportunity for them to become acquainted with our specialists and products. A number of our main products were displayed at our stand: our new PORCITO piglet feed range, our MERVIT mineral mixtures and our extensive series of health and performance-enhancing products such as Vitanox and Aromabiotic concepts.
We can look back on two very successful days!
Healthy cows live longer. This may seem a logical fact, but that isn't the case. The average age of dairy herds in the Netherlands is mainly affected by economic factors such as the price of milk, and to a much lesser extent by, for example, better udder health or fertility. The majority of dairy farmers appears to have limited interest in extending the life of their dairy cows, and yet it is also in the interest of those dairy farmers to keep their cows healthy.
At the end of 2013, Nuscience started the construction of a new factory on their site in Drongen. Currently, the first phase of the work has been completed. The large and intermediate warehouses are now in use. The two loading docks to facilitate easier loading and unloading of lorries are also operational.
Nuscience will again be present at the LIV fair in Hardenberg this year. During these 3 days, extra attention will be given to the new piglet feed range: Porcito!
Porcito is the collective name of our total piglet feed range. It includes the well-known names Babito, Babimel and Babistar.
As a promotional offer, pig farmers will be approached and given the opportunity to win 1000 kg of prestarter. In any event, everyone interested will receive a nice gadget!
One of the largest manufacturers of animal feed solutions in Europe, Nuscience Group, became the sole owner of the Serbian company Novi Mix. Nuscience Group acquired a 51 percent interest in the company last year, and has now decided to acquire the rest of the shared ownership. “In the last year we have seen that the Serbian market is changing rapidly and feed suppliers more and more want to buy high quality premixes instead of producing them” said Patrick Keereman, CEO of Nuscience Group. “Midterm, the access to the European market will further support this tendency”.

26 June 2014 – When Nuscience Group launched its Aromabiotic® range almost 10 years ago, the global market for antimicrobial growth promoters (AGP) replacements was in its infancy. Mounting public concerns about the overuse of antibiotics in feed, as well as evolving regulatory landscapes in many parts of the world have changed that, and provided the Ghent, Belgium-based company with new market growth opportunities.
The VIV Europe 2014 trade show, held from Tuesday 20 May to Thursday 22 May in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, attracted more than 20 thousand visitors in all, around 25% of them from the Netherlands.
During the show, Nuscience presented itself with the new product Vitanox, the natural antioxidant, and the new ‘Porcito’ product range for pigs. The stand was very busy with visitors from many countries.
In highly-productive animals, or during stressful periods (e.g. weaning, heat stress, ...) all cellular metabolic processes in the body are accelerated, including the oxidation processes. This leads to an increased production of free radicals, with harmful effects in the body as a result. For this reason, Nuscience developed Vitanox, with a proven positive effect on oxidative stress within the cell and an improvement in gut integrity through its positive effect on the so-called ‘tight junctions’.
The effects of heat stress are varied and are often underestimated. Heat stress affects the physiological processes of the whole animal.
The following elements are recognised: increasing breathing frequency/panting, decline in feed uptake, (subclinical) rumen acidosis, decline in production in the form of growth, eggs, milk production (also in sows), and a negative effect on fertility.
Milk fever is one of the primary health problems in Dutch dairy farming.
Although a cow with milk fever can generally be treated successfully by means of an infusion, prevention is better than cure. Feeding of a dry period mineral feed is essential in this.
Nuscience has developed a range of products against mycotoxins. Reduced feed intake, increased feed conversion and fertility problems are all effects of mycotoxins in feed. One negative effect of mycotoxins that is still underestimated is the suppression of the immune system of animals, resulting in more susceptibility of animals to diseases.
The Animal Health Service has recently expanded its bulk tank milk study to include copper. In addition to an analysis of the dairy herd’s daily intake of iodine and selenium, dairy farmers who subscribe to this study will now also receive information about the intake of copper on herd level. Nuscience can help you regulate this trace element supplementation.
For the supply of vitamin B12, ruminants are dependent on the formation of vitamin B12 by the microflora in the rumen. Cobalt is an essential trace element for the production of vitamin B12. Last year, legislation concerning cobalt has changed.
Nuscience has acquired the company Metachem Nutrientes, active in the development, production and sales of high-quality feed additives in Brasil. This acquisition is the first foothold of Nuscience in this large and high-potential market.
The use of antibiotics in the Dutch livestock industry must be reduced. The objective of the government is to achieve a reduction in 2015 of 70% compared to 2009. Less possibilities to correct health issues with antibiotics afterwards means that a good animal immune response is crucial. The use of the right feed supplements can make a significant contribution in this regard. Mervit UDDER HEALTH has a four-fold approach to immunity (contains Aromabiotic Cattle among other things). It helps, for example, to reduce the cell count in dairy cows and to reduce the number of new udder infections.
Nuscience also participated this year at the LIV in Hardenberg. We welcomed many visitors to our booth. It was a good opportunity to meet our specialists and talk to them about animal health in pig farming. Judging by the reactions to the ‘test kits’ that we distributed containing BABIMEL and BABITO, it was again confirmed that an early feed intake by piglets is of great importance. Overall, this was a very successful trade fair for us! But we are already looking ahead. We hope to see many of you again at the LIV in Venray!
Litters are getting bigger and the average birth weight is becoming lower; it is therefore essential that piglets are born healthy. Healthy piglets get on their feet quickly after birth, are active and search the sow’s udder. They have sufficient energy to compete with their litter mates for the best teat and drink plenty of colostrum, and later plenty of milk. They need colostrum for energy and immunity. Factors that play a role in the vitality of piglets
Nuscience Group is pleased to announce its next step into the Indian market through technical collaboration with ProVaaSys Nutrients India Pvt Ltd. Nuscience Group will provide technical knowhow, formulation support and QC inputs on Poultry Nutrition to its new partner ProVaaSys, along with its new age poultry feed premixes. The technical teams of Nuscience Group and ProVaaSys India will work closely to develop high quality and cost effective poultry feeds best suited to the Indian poultry industry. The agreement was signed by Mr. Patrick Keereman, Chief Executive Officer and the Directors of ProVaaSys India in August 2013.
On Thursday 5 September, Nuscience organised a seminar to mark the occasion of the renovation of the MervoBest factory. Some 150 guests from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Croatia and Hungary, among others, participated in this seminar.
In the autumn, the stress involved during weaning is heightened by the changes in the climate. The consequences of draught and/or too low temperatures in the section can have adverse effects like aggression, reduced growth and digestion problems. In addition to checking the climate settings, it is therefore worth taking the time to optimise the feed intake of piglets, both before and after weaning. Nuscience offers several solutions.
After water, lactose is the biggest component of milk, but unlike protein and fat, until recently the milk processing industry has not been particularly interested in it. However, this seems to be changing, since FrieslandCampina expressed its intention to put a value on lactose in milk in 2014. In this plan, a negative basic price is no longer calculated for the quantity of milk, but a ratio in the payment of 10:5: 1 for protein: fat: lactose is used. Interesting to see what the dairy farmer can accomplish with this.
Nuscience Group has acquired a 51 percent interest in the Serbian premix producer Novi Mix.
Many premixes classified as ADR approved, are categorised under ADR Class 9. Nuscience has been following this procedure of classifying and labelling premixes as hazardous substances and ADR since the spring of 2010. Another check was recently carried out to ensure that the rules are being adhered to. The conclusion was that Nuscience operates correctly with regard to, for instance, the identification and quality of the packaging, and provides ADR-worthy transport of the products to the customer.
Very soon, the second ADR-worthy semitrailer for bulk products will arrive so that we can also transport the large volumes of premixes ADR worthy.
A European study has looked at selenium limits in animal products. From this study, the EFSA has concluded that levels of more than 0.2 mg organic selenium per kg compound feed lead to higher levels of selenium in animal products, which could exceed the safety boundary of selenium intake for certain consumers.
The effects of heat stress are divers and are often underestimated. Heat stress affects the physiological processes of the whole animal.
The following elements are identified: increased respiratory rate/panting, decreased feed intake, rumen acidosis (also increased risk of subclinical rumen acidosis), decline of production in the form of growth, eggs, milk production (also sows) and a negative effect on fertility, e.g. in sows: a prolonged interval from weaning to oestrus, late ovulation, less clear signs of oestrus, more rebreeders, abortions, smaller litters, lower birth weights, autumn rejects and even an increased sow mortality rate during farrowing.
To prevent rumen acidosis in cattle, Nuscience has developed....
One of the problems with regular trace elements is the very low availability of copper and zinc to the animal. Zinc and copper quickly bind to feed components such as phytate, oxalate and fibres, forming indigestible complexes in the intestinal tract. In general, a large part of the zinc and copper from feed ends up in the manure. However, a new generation of trace elements has recently become available.
Preconex, a daughter company of Nuscience Group, has ceased production at Willebroek, Belgium, as a consequence of a production optimisation project in the Benelux. Its production of protein concentrates has been transferred to the Nuscience Netherlands factory in Utrecht.
Streptococcus is a much discussed topic in the pig stable. Streptococcus suis is a confrontational problem for pig farmers: lame piglets, piglets in the aisle, high mortality rate and a source of continuous worry. ‘Streptococcus’ is a bacteria with many aspects of infection, both in terms of the number of types of S. suis, the number of virulence factors, the mode of entry into the body, the symptoms and measures that have to be taken simultaneously to counteract problems.
An important point within livestock farming is the lowering of feed costs. To that end the addition of enzymes is a tried and tested means. Endogenous digestive enzymes are responsible for the breakdown of feed in the gastrointestinal tract: amylase (for the digestion of starch), protease (protein) and lipase (fat). Grains and plant-derived feedstocks, however, contain elements that are not digested by endogenous enzymes: NSPs (non-starch polysaccharides) such as xylans, glucans, pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose).
The price of lysine for immediate delivery has increased substantially in the last two months of last year. This was due on the one hand to an increase in the use of lysine worldwide as a result of high protein prices. On the other hand, shipments from Asia were delayed, which resulted in a huge demand at that time.
Nuscience Group announces strong business results for the year 2012. Specifically, Nuscience grew its revenues 25% year over year and has as such a very strong growth in operational result. The growth was driven by the success in the emerging markets China and Ukraine, positive evolutions in the Benelux and the introduction of innovative products.
BEC Feed Solutions has been appointed as the exclusive distributor for the Nuscience Functional Feed Ingredients division in Australia & New Zealand. Nuscience and BEC Feed Solutions will work closely together to introduce and sell the Aromabiotic® product range in the pig, poultry and cattle market.
Nuscience on 9 October 2012 organised a well-attended afternoon livestock study session under this header.
The session dealt in further depth with the possibility of improving udder health and the health of dairy cattle in general using Mervit Mineral Mixes.
The concentration of tryptophan in piglet feeds and meat pig feeds was much higher than normal by mid-2012 due to the high cost of proteins. Other parts of the world beyond Europe also became aware of tryptophan’s attractiveness at that time. The increased consumption drove up the price of tryptophan. In addition, when a producer ran into production problems a serious shortage arose.
A lot is expected from sows in group housing: recovery from the previous round, durable pregnancy in the interim and preparation for the production of colostrum and milk in the next round. In addition, sows must not drop out due to injuries and lameness caused by having to fight for their pecking order.
Nuscience Group will invest in the coming three years in Drongen (Belgium) and Utrecht (the Netherlands) to build new state-of-the-art production facilities. These investments are part of a re-organisation of the production set-up in the Benelux to increase cost-efficiency and to specialize the factories at the same time.
Today, Nuscience has held a Grand Opening Ceremony for the second production line in Suzhou, China. Over 400 customers attended the ceremony. With this new line, the capacity is doubled and also specialty products will be produced locally.
Nutreco announces today, 12 October, that it has reached an agreement for the sale of Trouw Nutrition Környe Kft’s business to Nuscience Group, the premix and specialty division of the Dutch cooperative Royal Agrifirm Group. Környe operates in the premix, concentrates and young animal feed market for pigs and ruminants in Hungary.
Nuscience Group & FDL announce Nuscience’s participation as Chain Partner of the Feed Design Lab (FDL) in the Netherlands. With this sponsorship Nuscience becomes a partner of the Lab for the next five years.
Biotine is regularly added to mixed feeds for dairy cattle. Biotine has positive effects on dairy cattle in terms of milk yield as well as claw health. Biotine’s best known effect is its positive effect on claw health. Its effect on milk yield is probably less well known, but is definitely very interesting as well. During trials with highly productive cows, an average increase in milk production of 1.3 kg of milk per cow per day was measured.
Effective 1 September 2012, our bulk transporter ‘Bontje’ transferred its transportation business to a new owner. A search for a new partner, who would be a good fit for all involved parties, was conducted in collaboration with Nuscience. The transportation company ‘Ecotrans’ in Vorden was finally selected.
Taste; this was the subject of the symposium organised by Nuscience on 12 June 2012. Peter de Kok of NIZO explained that there is a whole world hidden behind taste; much of it invisible. Carola van der Peet explained that it is very important for piglets to eat as much solid food as possible before they are weaned.
Copper is an important nutrient that fulfils a range of functions within the body. The common copper source in Mervit premixes and mineral mixes is copper sulphate. A new copper source, dicopper chloride trihydroxide, was recently registered in the EU as a feed additive for all animal species.
The Symposium ‘Copper and Zinc in Pig Farming’ presented by the Product Board Animal Feed (PDV) dealt with the opportunities available for reducing copper and zinc in pig feeds.
The technical results for poultry can be adversely affected during warm periods due to heat stress. Adverse effects of heat stress can be limited by using Mervit HITTEMIX 2602.
Due to their high milk production, dairy cattle are very active metabolically. At high temperatures they experience difficulty eliminating their heat resulting in heat stress which in turn causes feed intake and milk production to decline. A number of years ago we developed Mervit BUFFER+ as an antidote for this purpose.
As you probably already know we have created a separate department for the resale of raw materials to our customers. We want to improve the service provided to our customers this way. This “Resales Feed Ingredients" department will be intensively involved in the purchase and sale of feed ingredients.
From January 2012 onward, Vitamex Group is rebranded as Nuscience.
